Bubba Watson. Hes a good old boy never meaning no harm.

by ryanyoung on Mar.27, 2013, under Just Cool Helmets, Uncategorized

Bubba WatsonIf you had asked me when I started painting helmets if I thought I would someday paint a General Lee Helmet I would have told you Yes. If you would have said it was for a guy named Bubba it would not have surprised me at all. But if you had told me it would be for a Professional Golfer that had won the Masters I would have told you that you were crazy. I would have been wrong too. Recently we were asked by Denny Hamlin to paint a helmet for his friend who had recently bought a very cool car. Bubba Watson, winner of the 2012 Masters is now the owner of the original General Lee 1. He bought the car at the Barrett Jackson auto auction in Scottsdale Arizona, shelling out $110,000 for the car from the iconic jump scene featured in original pilot and the opening jump scene from every episode of the Dukes of Hazard. “The Dukes of Hazzard” ran from 1979 until 1985 and went through nearly 300 Dodge Chargers. During some episodes, more than one would be used, with big jump cars being taken out of service after filming. Its cool to know that in a small way we were able to be a small part of the Dukes of hazard history even if it was just painting a helmet for the guy that owns the same car we pushed around in the dirt when we were kids.

This year we were very pleased to be chosen by Joe Gibbs racing as the official helmet paint supplier for their racing operation. Management was looking for a dependable supplier that could offer dependable service competitive prices and cutting edge graphics for their drivers and sponsors. During the end of the 2010 season we were asked to send our resume and company information and did so with high expectations. We were given the go ahead to announce that we would be providing the paintwork early in 2011. I quite frankly never made it public knowledge until I was sure we could make them happy and I was sure we were a good fit. A few months into our relationship I am sure we will be working with this great organization for seasons to come. Our contact at JGR is a pleasure to work with and for the the most part the drivers are a great group of guys that appreciate our work. Keep your eyes peeled for more Indocil work being worn buy some of the best drivers currently in Cup and Nationwide.

Time to get back to the Blog!

by ryanyoung on Mar.29, 2011, under Uncategorized

2010 535I am very sorry the blog has been ignored for a long time. We have been so busy at the shop it has been very hard to manage paint and promote the business as well as we should. I apologize and want everyone to know that it will be my new goal to post content every Tues at least. As always remember the face book fan page is updated every two to three days. Feel free to visit and make comments on our work. We want your honest constructive criticism. Without it we become stale and stagnant. If we have ever been called something it has never been stale or stagnant

Hollywood Puts anouther Indocil Helmet in victory lane with a IHRA Championship to boot

by ryanyoung on May.18, 2010, under Uncategorized

Donny Urban, also known as “Hollywood” by his racing peers, has everything a driver could want – a cool nickname, a fast car and, after Rockingham, the title of IHRA World Champion.

Urban, from Pittsboro, N.C., traveled to Rockingham Dragway for the ’09 Tournament of Champions with hopes of adding a World Championship to his racing resume and did just that thanks to a consistent day on the tree and a little luck thrown in along the way. Urban reached the tournament thanks to a victory at Carolina Dragway’s TOC qualifier in July of last year and once at Rockingham he mowed through the field with wins over Harvey, Rob Berschneider, Jason Lynch, Vince Musolino and Steve Witherow all from the No. 12 position on the ladder. In the final Urban hit a .007 reaction time to help put up a solid 7.227 on a 722 dial to win his first IHRA title.

We at Indocil would like to congratulate Donny on his first IHRA championship and wish him the best of luck winning more. Its probably just a matter of time.

No matter what they ride the best of the best wear Indocil

by ryanyoung on May.11, 2010, under Uncategorized

Number One ranked Austin Meier has been seen sporting his new Indocil Art custom helmet on the PBR Bull Riding Circuit. Austin became the number one ranked rider in the world earlier this year after bringing the crowd at the world-famous “Pit” to its feet with a 92-point ride on (D&H Cattle Company/Moe Bandy) in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round.

“It has been an incredible year and the success that I have had is unreal,” said Meier, who has also won in Kansas City, Mo. and Winston-Salem, N.C. “I have matured the last two years including making changes in my workout routine and what I eat. That is what it takes to be successful at this level is dedication and I just have to keep riding hard and taking it one bull at a time.”

Everyone here at Indocil is proud to see more and more Bull Riders making the responsible decision to wear a helmet and we are even more pleased that many top PBR riders trust us at indocil to customize their head gear. Congratulations to Austin and all the other Indocil PBR customers for a stellar year.

New Indocil Tshirts now available!

World Domination Tshirt Design by Indocil

World Domination Tshirt Design by Indocil

Hot off the presses from LJ designs comes the new Indocil 100% organic tshirt. The new design caries the Indocil slogan of “total world domination one helmet at a time” in Spanish and was designed in house by owner operator Ryan Young.  We wanted this shirt to be a cool stylish design that had the gritty Indocil feel. There is a voodoo doll in the design with another helmet painters name on it and as it may seem somewhat disrespectful it really isn’t Young commented. In 1993 during art class my senior year in high school I read an article in Airbrush Action magazine about a helmet painter that many considered the father of helmet paint. He painted helmets for a living and I thought that it looked like the coolest job on the planet and started painting helmets. He is probably the most famous helmet painter in the world and if you aren’t aiming to be the best your not trying hard enough. If you are the king of the mountain you have to know everyone is gunning for you. I hope we become successful enough to be on a competitors shirt one day.

Indocil is currently working on a new website with a shopping cart but until then if you want one of our new shirts (or sweat shirts) please email us at with the size, number of shirts and your shipping address and someone will contact you for payment. We accept Visa or Master-card. If you prefer to pay by check please send the information and check to 1215 E. Main Street Rock Hill SC 29730. The cost is $18.00 ($40.00 for Sweatshirts) plus $6.00 for shipping anywhere in the continental USA.

PS ” Troy if you want a tshirt I will give you one. Its the least I could do. If it wasn’t for you I might work at a real job with a time card, drive a newer car, have decent pay and benefits.”

Long time customer Tommy Johnson Jr. will once again be behind the wheel of a top fuel dragster. Tommy has taken a driving position at Don Schumacher Racing and will begin testing in Jan.

Excerpt taken from Competition plus.
“Johnson is slated to drive one of two Top Fuel dragsters destined for the Yas Marina circuit based in Abu Dhabi. The driver of the second car has yet to be determined.

Lee Beard will serve as Johnson’s crew chief.

“They [Yas Marina] will own them, we will build the cars and hire the crews,” said Schumacher.

Johnson’s last driving job was with Kenny Bernstein Racing, when he piloted the Monster Energy drink-sponsored Funny Car.

“After sitting out a year, it’s not nearly as exciting sitting on the sidelines watching as it is driving,” said Johnson. “I didn’t care if it was a dragster or a funny car; I just wanted to be back driving again. I missed competing.”

Johnson admits that with his competitive spirit that it was difficult to fill the role of spectator.

“If you’re not careful, it will beat you up mentally,” Johnson said. “The competitive drive in you heats up and you see others doing it and you want to too. It provides you with a lot of drive and determination to get back out there. The biggest thing that I had going for me is that a lot of other good drivers were out of work too.”

It will be great to see TJ back behind the wheel sporting his newest Indocil lid. Stay tuned to see Tommy’s newest helmet as soon as we get it completed.
